Howden Joinery is a kitchen dream

In the world of kitchens, Howden Joinery is king. The FTSE 250 group was even granted a royal warrant in 2015 for supplying its services to the Queen.

With stores on industrial estates and retail parks, the brand resonates with builders and tradesmen.

Investors might want to pay attention: the shares have been on a tear, rising by 45% over the past year to 727.6p, and a market value of £4.4bn.

Founder and former chief executive Matthew Ingle set up the company as Howdens in 1995. It was part of MFI Furniture, which was sold off for the nominal sum of £1 to private equity firm Merchant Equity Partners in 2006 after a sharp slump in sales.
